Conference Planning Officers
Job Overview
BABS Annual Meeting is the main calendar event each year. The Conference Planning team will help develop and execute the annual conference for the Association. They will have the creativity, energy and motivation to curate an exciting programme. They will lead the organisation of the meeting with assistance from the Programmes Development Team.
Reports to: Chair and Trustees
Term: 3 years (reviewed after 1 year)
Position: Voluntary
Responsibilities and Duties
- Coordinate the annual conference’s development and delivery (on time & within budget).
- Develop the content of the conference and Courses delivered as part of it.
- Liaise with the Education & Training team and Programmes Development team.
- Organise meetings with companies and organisations who wish to exhibit at the conference.
- Process additional requests, such as room set-up, catering, and audio-visual requirements.
- Liaise with the Treasury team to submit invoices for catering, equipment, amenities and other associated conference costs.
- Plan and coordinate all activities to successfully execute annual conferences.
- Present regular updates to the Board of Trustees and Executive Committee.
Essential Criteria
- In a surgical specialty as defined by the Royal College of Surgeons in the UK.
- Based in the UK.
Desirable Criteria – Head Officer
- On the GMC specialist register (doctors who are eligible to take up appointment in any fixed term, honorary or substantive consultant post in the NHS).
- Experience with successful conference planning – but not essential.
Desirable Criteria – Assistant Officers
- Experience with successful conference planning – but not essential.
